American Airlines Plane Loops Around After Reported Problem

Flight 1620 faced an alert and was forced to return to DFW Airport

An American Airlines flight returned to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Tuesday morning after reporting a problem shortly after takeoff.

American Airlines Flight 1620 took off at 8:50 a.m. for Denver. Moments after departing, an alert forced the plane to loop around and return to the airport.

The Boeing 737-800 with 154 people on board landed safely at DFW Airport after circling northwest Tarrant County for several minutes.

The airline has not confirmed the issue, but an initial report indicated a problem with a stabilizer.

The flight was scheduled to depart at 12:50 p.m., but as of 1:10 p.m. it's still awaiting takeoff.
