Alleged White Supremacist Faces Weapons Charges

Federal prosecutors said a high-ranking member of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas has been indicted on charges he possessed multiple firearms as a felon.

The U.S. attorney's office in Memphis said Thursday that 52-year-old Joseph Shields was arrested in April after an altercation with his girlfriend.

Prosecutors said the woman told police Shields was armed and threatened to kill her. Prosecutors said they found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, two rifles and numerous rounds of ammunition in her house.

Shields was taken into custody after he fled the house. Officers located a gun safe with an unspecified number of firearms in Shields' apartment.

Prosecutors said Shields acknowledged he was a captain in the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas, which officials claim is responsible for murders, assaults and drug trafficking.
