Addison Sprinkler Causes Problems After Freeze

Monday morning’s freezing temperatures caused some major problems for drivers.

A water main break on Marsh Lane in Dallas caused several accidents after the water froze, and sprinklers left on at an Addison restaurant made a busy intersection there very slick. Jason Derfus was driving south on Marsh Lane when his vehicle was hit by another.

“I was going slow and then, out of nowhere, I heard a pop,” said Derfus. “A gentleman came over the median and hit my back end. I think I was the second accident in a chain reaction in three or four of them in a matter of six or seven minutes.”

Luckily, no one was hurt in the four accidents on Marsh Lane.

“It’s kind of a good day, I guess,” said Derfus.

The sprinklers were left on in front of the Olive Garden in Addison at Belt Line and Midway roads Sunday night. Road crews had to put out sand to make the intersection safe for drivers.

The sidewalks near the restaurant also had a layer of ice on them. Cecilia Carrington, who was walking in front of the restaurant, was worried about her safety.

“Just praying, and being real careful, and walking slow,” said Carrington.

Carrington hopes this company will get a stern talking to for making the area not safe.

“I think they should get at least a warning, and get cited with a warning first,” she said.

Addison city officials said they do not fine companies for leaving their sprinklers on during freezing weather, but they said they would go by and remind them not to do it again.
