The W.H. Adamson High School band is the recipient of a $100,000 grant after competing with schools across the country in an online contest.
The band is currently playing with instruments in poor condition, but now the students will get brand new brass instruments, woodwind instruments and drums.
NBC 5 aired a story about the online contest in October, and the band learned it won the grant Monday.
"It felt like an immense feeling of happiness, because now we know that we don't have to use taped-up instruments," band member Leslie Rios said.
The band plays at high school football games, competitions and various community events.
Band leaders hope to have all the new instruments by the end of this school year.
