The man, whose identity has not been released, was attempting to renew his driver's license at the DPS office on Northwest Highway near Jupiter Road at about 5 p.m. but fled when it was determined he had an outstanding felony warrant, DPS spokesman Lonny Haschel said.

A trooper attempted to arrest the man, but he got into a white BMW in the parking lot. The off-duty officer came to the trooper's aid in attempting to arrest the man, and both law enforcement officers fired their guns at the man during the encounter, Haschel said.
