Abilene SVU Detective Heading to Dallas Killed in Crash

Det. Ybarra had been serving as a Child Abuse Investigator since Dec. 2016

An Abilene police officer traveling to Dallas for a Crimes Against Children Conference was killed in a crash Sunday evening, police say.

Detectives Elise Ybarra, Chris Milliorn and Robert Collins were on their way to the Crimes Against Children Conference when they came to a slowdown behind a crash on Interstate 20, outside of Abilene, at about 6:15 p.m.

Police said the 33-year-old Ybarra had been driving an unmarked detective's vehicle when it was struck by a white Chevrolet pickup. She died at the scene of the crash.

Milliorn and Collins were transported to Hendrick Medical Center, and both were expected to recover from their injuries.

This week, more than 4,000 people from across the nation and around the world are in downtown Dallas for the 29th annual Crimes Against Children Conference.

The condition of the pickup truck driver was not released.

Ybarra had been serving with the Abilene Police Department since November 2014. She served as a patrol officer for two years before transferring to the Special Victims' Unit as a Child Abuse Investigator in December 2016.

Ybarra is survived by her husband of eight years, Adam Ybarra, and her 10-month-old daughter.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has launched an investigation into the crash.
