Abilene Police Return Fire, Wound Gunman in Domestic Dispute

Abilene police returned fire and wounded a gunman during a domestic disturbance outside a house early Monday.

Abilene police responded to a call about a 31-year-old armed man trying to get into a house to reach his girlfriend, who was inside with several other people.

Officers located the suspect near the back door. Authorities said the man ignored police commands and shot at two officers, but missed. Officers returned fire, striking the man.

A police statement said the man was transported to an Abilene hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be critical. No officers were hurt in the gunfire.

Police said the suspect is expected to face charges of aggravated assault against a peace officer.

Both officers are on administrative leave amid a review of the shooting.
