Abbott Agrees to Keeping Execution Drugs a Secret

The Texas prison system does not have to reveal where it gets the drugs used in executions, according to a ruling by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.

Abbott agreed with the decision to keep the source of the drug a secret to protect the supplier from threats.

Lawyers for death row inmates in several states, including Texas, have sued or asked for stays of execution claiming their clients have a right to know what the drug is that will be used to put them to death.

So far, no executions have been stopped because of the fight.

Abbott, a Republican, faces Democrat State Sen. Wendy Davis in the Texas gubernatorial race.
