Rental Car Shortage Driving Travelers Mad

Travelers looking for a rental car after arriving at DFW International Airport are in for a surprise.

A severe shortage of rentals means that only those travelers with reservations are guaranteed a ride.

Diana Burson, who was headed to a wedding, said she found out the hard way.

“We went up to Hertz and Enterprise and they were out of cars, everyone is out of cars,” she said.

Rental car company employees all said that numerous conventions, including Rev. T.D. Jakes annual “Man Power” conference, combined with a crush of business travelers is to blame for the massive sell out.

“All my life and this never happened to me before," said William Ball, who flew in to DFW from Virginia with his family. "One of my friends is retiring and we got to get to his retirement, and it don’t look too good right now.”

Ball and many other travelers went from counter to counter searching for any vehicle available.

“We are hungry, we flew in from Virginia, we are ready to eat and get to our hotel,” said Marivic Ball.

Alamo posted signs saying it had cars available and that caused a massive line to form.

“We don’t know how long we will have cars,” said one Alamo employee from behind the counter.

Rental car employees said they are hopeful that by Friday most companies will have more cars in stock as business travelers return them before heading home.
