Youth Pastor Injured in Shooting Inside Church

Police in Garland are investigating the shooting of a youth pastor inside a church Friday night.

Witness told police that a man walked up to the pastor during a regular youth meeting at Walnut Park Casa De Mi Gloria Church at around 9:30 p.m. The man said something to the pastor, then shot at him. He pointed a pistol at another person but did not fire.

Police said they took a 20-year-old man into custody several blocks away and found a handgun they believed was used in the shooting.

Garland police said Josue Pablo, 20, of Mesquite is charged with criminal attempted murder for shooting the pastor and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for poining the gun toward another person. Bond has not been set.

Church goers said Pablo's mother and sister attended Walnut Park Casa De Mi Gloria, and witnesses said he brought his two children with him on the night of the shooting.

The pastor was hospitalized at Parkland Hospital with wounds that are not believed to be life-threatening according to Garland police.
