Charges are pending against the driver of a vehicle who was shot by an off-duty Galveston police officer who pulled him over for driving the wrong way on Interstate 45.
Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset tells the Galveston County Daily News the shooting occurred Thursday night between Galveston and Texas City after the officer in his personal vehicle heard a radio call about the wrong-way motorist.
Details aren't immediately clear, but Trochesset says after the driver was pulled over, he charged at the officer who responded by shooting him.
The wounded man is under guard at a Galveston hospital. His condition isn't known but the sheriff says he was alert when taken to the hospital.
Neither his name nor the name of the officer has been released.
