Worker Hurt in Texas Storage Tank Explosion

An oilfield worker has suffered burns in a storage tank explosion at a Central Texas site.

The Robertson County Sheriff's Office says the blast happened around midday Wednesday near New Baden, about 100 miles northeast of Austin. The victim was flown to a Houston hospital. His name hasn't been released.

Sheriff's officials on Thursday did not immediately respond to a message to provide additional information on the worker.

Deputy Steve Misterek earlier said the victim was atop the tank when the explosion happened. No cause has been determined for the explosion and fire that sent black smoke and flames swirling in a fiery image visible for several miles.

Firefighters put out the blaze by late Wednesday afternoon. New Baden is 100 miles northeast of Austin.
