Worker Burned in Blast at Texas Vodka Distillery

A contract welder working at a Central Texas vodka distillery was burned Friday in an explosion at the distillery.

The explosion happened about 7 a.m. Friday at the San Luis Spirits distillery in the Hill Country town of Dripping Springs, southwest of Austin.

Hays County sheriff's Deputy Pam Robinson says the welder was airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio with burns to his hands, legs and face. No identity nor condition was immediately available.

San Luis Spirits co-owner Kevin Kelleher says the blast damaged the still. Tthe cause of the explosion is under investigation, and he referred questions about the explosion to the Hays County fire marshal, who didn't return a telephone call from The Associated Press on Friday.
