Woman Shot in the Neck During Dallas Robbery

Woman survives surgery, in recovery, friend said

A woman was shot in the neck late Thursday during a robbery in Dallas, police say.

Police said two women were closing the Chi-Chi African Hair Braiding store on the 9000 block of Bruton Road when an armed man approached and demanded their purses.

Beatrice Tchoumbia complied immediately, but police say that didn't stop the robber from firing a shot.

Tchoumbia was shot in the neck, her friend was able to call 911 and get her transported to the hospital for treatment.

Tchoumbia's friend told NBC 5 that the woman survived surgery and is now recovering.

Police have not revealed a description of the gunman.

Pleasant Grove residents say they're angry about the shooting and say they've seen a rise in crime.

"Go out and get a job is the way I see it. Get a job and quit harming other people but it's just sad that the area of Pleasant Grove has just went down so bad," said Janice Miller.

The shooting was one of several reported overnight across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

NBC 5's Jeff Smith and Randy McIlwain contributed to this report.
