The supervisor for Dignity Team Health fatally shot by an employee at a Dallas office building Monday morning had been married just a month ago.
Authorities said Tuesday that Matthew Kempf shot his boss, 48-year-old Lana Canada, in a meeting room and then took his own life.
Canada was married a month ago and was previously known as Lana McAree.
Police have not indicated why Kempf targeted her Monday and court records didn't indicate he had any apparent criminal history.
Authorities said Kempf was employed by the company at the time.
On Tuesday afternoon, Dignity Team Health spokesperson Gayle Goodman released the following statement on behalf of the company.
Our hearts are broken by yesterday’s events. We want to first say our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those impacted. We are a small company and we feel this loss deeply because all our team members are like family. We stand ready to help the authorities in any way we can as they investigate this terrible tragedy.
We stand ready as well to help our team members in this time of shock and grief. We have skilled counselors available for any member of our team who wants or needs them. Our entire organization met to pray and grieve together this morning and we will have additional meetings to offer help and support to our staff.
While we come to grips with what happened yesterday, our business continues. As a healthcare provider, we serve patients with unique and specific needs who require consistent, expert care. We will not fail them. Though we grieve, our work goes on.
