Woman Killed in Plano Double Shooting

Police say two victims did not know each other

Police said they do not have suspects in a shooting that killed one woman and injured a man in East Plano on Wednesday night.

Police said 24-year-old Jessica Valesquez, of Plano, was killed at the scene. The other victim was being treated Thursday for multiple non-life-threatening injuries.

Plano police said they do not know if the shooting was a random act or if one or both of the victims were targeted.

β€œWe don’t know if possibly she might have been in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Officer David Tilley said.
Tilley said the male victim was shot inside a home in the 1100 block of Avenue F.
Neighbors said he was just trying to help Velasquez, who seemed to be in trouble.
β€œHe helped her. He was being a nice guy, and he just got hurt,” said Shane Keller, who lives down the street.
Police confirmed that Velasquez and the other victim did not know each other.
Velasquez is from Plano, but she did not live in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred.
Neighbors said they don’t know her, and police doubt she had connections in the area.
β€œShe does not reside in that community,” Tilley said.
Police said the investigation into the shootings is ongoing.
