Woman Killed in Crash With Off-Duty Firefighter

Plano firefighter listed in stable condition after head-on crash, surgery

Anna police are investigating a fatal crash involving an off-duty firefighter.

According to police, the crash took place at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday near state Highway 121 near Collin County Outer Loop Road.

Zelia Alvarez, 33, of Westminster, was airlifted to an area hospital after the crash but died on the way, NBC 5 has learned. The other driver, Lindy Lawley, an off-duty Plano firefighter, was hospitalized in critical condition at Medical Center Plano and stable after undergoing surgery.

Police said the driver of a GMC Yukon and a Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck collided head-on. Police have not said which driver was driving which vehicle and have also not said what led to the collision.
