Woman Falls to Her Death From I-635 Retaining Wall

Dallas police are investigating the death of a 48-year-old Plano woman who fell from an Interstate 635 retaining wall late Saturday night.

Police said Melanie Pannell, 48, fell over the retaining wall of LBJ Freeway after she and a 46-year-old man stopped on the side of the highway.

The man, who authorities didn't identify, told police the couple stopped because he needed to relieve himself in the bushes. Dallas police said the man drove to a police station and made a report "some time later."

Officers found Pannell's body shortly after 10 p.m. on the ground on the south side of the freeway about 40 feet below the overpass.

Police said Sunday afternoon that Pannell's death is unexplained and is under investigation. No charges have been filed, police said.
