Woman Convicted of Murder in Stabbing-Castration

A North Texas jury has found a woman guilty of murder for stabbing a man 130 times before castrating him at a Dallas hotel room.

Cristal Paulette Richardson had insisted that she was defending herself after being sexually assaulted when she killed Cedric Lamont Owens in April 2012.

A Dallas County jury, however, deliberated almost two hours before finding Richardson guilty of murder on Monday. The penalty phase of the trial is to begin Tuesday morning. She faces up to life in prison.

Authorities said they found Owens' bloody and naked body in the hotel room. Besides the stab wounds and castration, his throat had been cut. Police found Richardson sitting outside in a stairwell, naked and covered in blood.
