Dallas police announced the arrest of 23-year-old Crystal Cortes (inset) in connection with the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Kendra Hatcher in an Uptown apartment complex parking lot.

A young woman is facing capital murder charges after being arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Kendra Hatcher, according to Dallas police.

Hatcher, described by family and friends as a well-respected pediatric dentist who was good with kids and spoke Spanish, was planning a move to San Francisco. She was gunned down in the parking garage of her residence, the Gables Park 17 apartments, on the 1700 block of Cedar Springs Road, shortly after arriving home Wednesday evening.

Dallas police said 23-year-old Crystal Cortes admitted her involvement in the murder and has given detectives information that others may have been involved.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Cortes told detectives she was behind the wheel of a Jeep Cherokee spotted by a witness on the the night Hatcher was shot and killed.

Cortes told detectives she was paid $500 to drive a man to that parking garage for a robbery. She also said that man she drove is the shooter, according to the affidavit.

Police have not released the man's name or said whether he is in custody. As of this writing, it is not clear if Cortes, who is being held on $250,000 bond, has a lawyer.

Police said the parking garage surveillance photo released to the media led them to Cortes. Someone saw the photo on the news and realized it was their Jeep that they had loaned out and alerted detectives.

Dallas police said the investigation is ongoing.

Editor's note: Police originally stated that Crystal Cortes was 22. They have since corrected her age to 23. Police also corrected her last name from "Cortez", to "Cortes."
