Wise County Judge Bill McElhaney collapsed while presiding over the Wise County Commissioners Court meeting and died Monday morning.
McElhaney collapsed at about 10:15 a.m. Wise County medics started CPR then transported McElhaney to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur where he was pronounced dead.
McElhaney, who lived in Bridgeport, served as county judge for 7 years and was seeking reelection this fall.
He also served as vice president of North Central Texas Council of Governments.
An interim county judge has not yet been named. An autopsy has been ordered.
