Winter Weather Advisory

Ice May Return to North Texas

A cold arctic air mass remained in place across North Texas on Monday.  Overnight, temperatures will remain near freezing, and some light rain may begin to develop.  This creates the possibility of icy bridges and overpasses for portions of North Texas before daybreak.

At this time, it appears that most of the precipitation will be east of the Metroplex.  And temperatures will likely be above freezing in counties west and south of Fort Worth.  So for now, the greatest threat of travel problems occurring will be in the counties north and east of Dallas.  Areas north of Interstate 20 and east of Interstate 35-E are the most likely areas to experience some icing.

The National Weather Service has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory from 3 a.m. until 9 a.m.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area is not likely to see much ice.  But remember that only a thin glaze of ice can create travel problems on bridges and overpasses.  So everyone should exercise caution when the precipitation begins late tonight and Tuesday morning.

Temperatures should warm considerably during the day Tuesday, perhaps into the 50's by afternoon, so even those areas that do experience ice should see rapid melting before noon.  But the pre-dawn hours could be tricky, so be careful on the roads out there.
