Wife Wanted Husband Murdered While Trick-or-Treating: Police

A Spokane Valley, Washington woman is behind bars after detailing multiple plots to kill her husband for life insurance money.

One of those plans involved having her husband shot on Halloween night while they were out trick-or-treating with their kids.

Spokane Valley Sheriff's Detectives arrested 39-year-old Martie M. Soderberg Maxwell on Monday afternoon for Criminal Solicitation to commit 1st Degree Murder.

According to deputies, Soderberg had reconnected with an old high school friend and asked him to carry out her plan to kill her husband.

The two initially chatted via social media, but on Oct. 11 Soderberg met with the subject at a restaurant for coffee in Spokane Valley and it was during that face-to-face conversation she unveiled her secret plot.

Soderberg told the subject she had been married to her husband for 15 years, but the marriage had turned verbally and physically abusive. She confessed she was done with the abuse and wanted her husband gone.

She said she was the beneficiary of her husband's life insurance policy and indicated she couldn't just leave him because she couldn't make it on her own.
