A man's wife and daughter who are accused of attempting to hire a hit man to kill him were arrested Monday morning, Dallas police said.
Police said Shirley Hughes, 56, of Garland, conspired with her daughter, Tammy Lewis, 31, to have her husband of 34 years, Kenneth Hughes, killed.
"To have a child, as well as a spouse, involved in a plan of this nature is extremely unusual," Lt. Craig Miller said.
Investigators said Lewis met with an undercover officer she thought was a hit man in a Walmart parking lot at Interstate 30 and Buckner.
"(Apparently) this was something that they wanted to take place in a rapid time frame," Miller said.
According to the arrest report, Lewis offered the officer a loaded pistol to use as the murder weapon and promised him $25,000 once the job was done.
Police said Hughes has confessed to the crime.
"I’m speechless; I don’t know what to say," the Hughes’ next door neighbor in Garland said.

But no one was more shocked than Kenneth Hughes, police said.
"These are people that you trust and love," Miller said, "He is very distraught, I can assure you of that."
Police said Kenneth Hughes has a large life insurance policy, but police did not want to speculate on a motive.
Hughes and Lewis have been charged with criminal solicitation to commit capital murder. They are each being held on a $100,000 bond. If convicted, they face sentences of up to life in prison.
