Water Main Breaks in Stockyards

Water main break reported at about 10 a.m.

A water main ruptured in the Historic Stockyards Monday morning, flooding the intersection near Exchange and Main streets in Fort Worth and cutting off water to area businesses.

The break along a 10-inch main was reported at about 10 a.m. after a sidewalk buckled, cutting off water service to several businesses.

The water main was repaired by about 6:45 p.m. and water service was restored.

The road will reopen to traffic once a contractor delivers fill material for a temporary repair. A contractor will complete the brick street restoration work at a later time, the city said.

Because of the historic nature of the brick road, each brick had to be removed by hand before digging could begin to fix the main.

NBC 5's Chris Van Horne contributed to this report.
