Family, Friends Pay Last Respects to Muhlaysia Booker

Hundreds gathered Tuesday at Cathedral of Hope in Dallas for the funeral of 23-year-old Muhlaysia Booker.

Booker's friends and family were joined at 11 a.m. in mourning by members of the LGBTQ community from around the region.

Booker was shot and killed May 18 after she survived a brutal attack that was caught on camera in April. After the April incident, Booker spoke out against violence against transgender women.

"She was brave and decided to speak out to prevent what ultimately happened to her -- happening to another woman like her," Kirk Myers with Abounding Prosperity, INC said.

Since the murder, Abounding Prosperity has used its grief as fuel, working with newly elected Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot to forge partnerships to improve safety and protection.

Police have made no arrests in Booker's murder.

Investigators are looking into possible connections to other crimes against transgender women.
