Civilians and former military members armed themselves and stood outside a Navy recruiting center in the 600 block of North Nolan River Road in Cleburne.

A local Army veteran decided he wanted to do something to support military recruiters, so he began standing outside the center Monday. By Tuesday night, six people were standing guard.

The group of volunteers said they want to show the military that the community is behind them. Terry Jackson said the group plans to stand guard "until something changes."

Per federal rules, military recruiters are not allowed to be armed in recruiting offices. Officials are revisiting that policy.

Area residents also began stopping by to chat, thank the volunteers and drop off water.
