A North Texas man has been jailed on a murder charge after saying "voices" told him to take a pickax to the head of another man.
Nicholas Camfield of Weatherford remained in the Parker County jail Saturday with bond set at $1 million after telling a Texas Ranger he struck John Daniel Doss with the pickax "because the `voices in his head' were telling him to do it."
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the 24-year-old Camfield also said he scalped Doss and then spent four days mutilating his body.
The details were in a probable cause affidavit released Friday by the Parker County sheriff's department.
According to the affidavit, a friend became concerned that he hadn't been able to contact Doss and went to check on him Wednesday.
