A new airline may be soon landing at DFW International Airport.
California-based low-fare airline Virgin America told Bloomberg News it is considering expanding to Dallas, Austin and Atlanta, as well as the Canadian cities of Toronto and Vancouver.
David Cush, CEO Virgin America, told Bloomberg that the airline is interested in acquiring 40 Airbus jets currently owned by Frontier, assuming Southwest Airlines sells the planes after acquiring the bankrupt Denver airline.
"We have analyzed Dallas and Austin, places with big corporate and technology bases that certainly would have some synergies with San Francisco and Los Angeles," Cush told Bloomberg.
The airline hopes to expand to 30 cities in its first three to five years of operation.
Virgin America, which began operations in 2007 and is partially owned by U.K. billionaire Richard Branson, primarily flies between the east and west coasts. The airline will soon begin servicing its 10th market, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Nov. 18.
A spokesperson for DFW said they have not been officially approached by the airline.
