Vigil Wednesday for 3 Children Killed in Grand Prairie Car Crash

The Irving Independent School District will host a vigil Wednesday night for the Gonzalez family, who lost three of their children in a car crash Sunday.

The collision took place at about 2 p.m. when the family's Dodge Stratus stalled in the left lane of Interstate 30 near the George Bush Turnpike interchange.

The family was waiting for assistance when a Ford F-150 pickup truck struck the vehicle from behind.

All four children were taken to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth. Maria and Diana Gonzalez, who both attended Lamar Middle School in Irving, died of their injuries. The parents took Jesus off of life support at 6 p.m. Monday.

Maria Gonzalez, who attend Brown Elementary School with Jesus, remains in critical condition at Cook Children's. The mother, Maria Vasquez, sustained minor injuries. The father, Juan Gonzalez, was not hurt.

All four of the Gonzalez's children are students in the IISD.

The vigil begins at 4 p.m. at Lamar Middle School at 219 Crandall Street in Irving.

The funeral for all three children is planned for Friday at 10 a.m.
