Vicious Jewelry Store Robbery Caught on Tape

One man pulls gun, another wrestles employee during violent robbery.

A Richardson jewelry store employee has two broken toes after fighting off an attempted robbery last month.

Richardson police say two men, one dressed in a suit and the other in military fatigues, walked into Aarti Jewelers in the 100 Block of South Central Expressway in Richardson.

Pravin Shukla let the two men in through a front security door, figuring they were regular customers.

Shukla said they even acted like they wanted to buy jewelry.

"The man in the fatigues, when he stepped in, he said, 'I'm leaving tomorrow to Iraq and today I'm getting married. So I need to buy a ring,'" Shukla said.

A few seconds later, surveillance video shows the man in the suit attacking a female employee and pinning her to the ground. The camera also shows the man pulling a gun, and pointing it at the scared employee.

Shukla said he couldn't tell what was happening and the next thing he knew, he was pulled over the counter.

"Basically, he threw me like a 1-year-old baby." Shukla said of the suspect.

Police said the man Shukla fought was much bigger than the 5-foot tall employee.

There was a significant size difference -- almost twice the size of the employee. While they were wrestling, he throws him around like a rag doll." said Sgt. Kevin Perlich, of the Richardson Police Department.

Anyone with information about the men in the surveillance video is asked to call the Richardson police at 972-744-4801.
