VA Center Offers Free Gifts for Vets

Hospitalized vets can give from donated items

The holidays can bring out the best in some people.

A group of those good folks banned together to make the holidays a bit more pleasant for military veterans who are hospitalized at the Dallas VA Medical Center. Volunteers from the American Legion auxiliaries and posts set about collecting some 2,000 donated items such as small appliances, clothing, toys, electronics, and winter accessories and placed the items in the American Legion Auxiliary's gift shop.

The volunteers then make the rounds of hospitalized veterans, who describe the intended recipient and what he or she might want as a gift.

After a flurry of wrapping and packaging, the gifts are ready to be shipped to said recipients, and a vet smiles a warm holiday smile knowing she or he might just make a Christmas wish come true.

And that right there, boys and girls, that’s the true spirit of the season.
