UTA Students Participate in Disaster Simulations

Emergency crews constantly train for disaster events and North Texas college students received their first look Friday.

More than 100 University of Texas at Arlington nursing students spent three hours at a field near the school preparing for disaster in a simulated shooting, fire wreck. The students had to treat "walking wounded" and work with emergency medical personnel.

"It's coming to life, so we'll be actually doing the hands-on in the field," student Tony Chris Nnaka said.

Friday's demonstration made up a portion of their final exam, highlighting how health care providers and other emergency services professionals work together during a disaster to protect the community.

The simulation is also good practice for those who plan to work at a hospital, where they would periodically simulate disaster situations.
