US to Extradite Dad Accused of Taking Kids From France

The U.S. government says it will extradite an oil industry consultant to France to face kidnapping charges.

Timothy Sharp is accused of taking his two daughters and son from their mother in France last year and bringing them to North Texas.

Charla Conner, the mother's attorney, picked up the children last week at a Carrollton church. The children have been reunited in France with their mother, who has not seen them in nine months.

Conner said she believes Sharp may have been planning to flee again.

"Time is of the essence in a situation like that, and when I walked in the house, there were there packed bags by the door -- one Chloe's, one Simon's and one Emma's," she said. "You could tell by the size of the clothing and the type of clothing."

Sharp took Chloe, 11; Emma, 7 and Simon, 6, for a weekend in June 2008 and never returned, Conner said.

Sharp's estranged wife, Cecile, realized her children might be in North Texas when she received notice of divorce proceedings from Dallas in February.

Conner hired a private investigator and discovered Timothy Sharp and the children were living in a home owned by Pentecostal megachurch Covenant Church.

Church officials told the Dallas Morning News they did not know they were harboring an international fugitive.

State Department agents arrested Sharp while he was on his way to a divorce proceedings hearing on March 10.

The judge in Dallas divorce case threw it out after he learned a divorce was pending in France, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Sharp has waived his right to oppose extradition.

French officials may take custody of him as early as this week.

If convicted, he could face up to four years in prison in France.
