Bomb Scare Closes US 80

US Highway 80 at state Highway 205 in Kaufman County should reopen just before 3:30 p.m. after police activity forced the sheriff's office to close the highway Tuesday.

A female motorist traveling on US 80 heard a ticking noise under her car and was afraid it might be a bomb. She called local authorities who came to investigate the vehicle.

Officials shut down US 80 and the adjacent railroad as a precaution. DPS is assisting Kaufman County in the investigation.

The Garland Police Department's bomb squad was called in to check the vehicle. Kaufman County Sheriff's Office said that no bomb devices were found.

Previously, the DPS office located in Garland told NBC 5 a man in a car said he has a bomb. That information was inaccurate.

The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office said it expected to reopen the highway by 3:30 p.m.
