Two Plead Guilty for Payroll Checks Scam

A man and a woman from East Texas have pleaded guilty in a payroll scam involving the cashing of more than 100 fake checks.

Prosecutors say 44-year-old Mark Alan McCullars of Marshall and 23-year-old Amanda Henderson Longview pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy to commit bank fraud. They face prison terms of up to 30 years. No sentencing dates have been set by a federal judge in Tyler.

Authorities say McCullars and Henderson in May 2011 began creating bogus documents that appeared to be payroll checks from several businesses. Investigators say the pair also created fake driver's licenses for use as identification at check-cashing companies.

Prosecutors say the scheme caused more than $55,000 in losses to check-cashing businesses.
