Two people were killed and one was injured early Friday morning in a three-vehicle crash along Interstate 30 near Dalrock Road.

The crash took place along the border between Dallas and Garland near Lake Ray Hubbard.

Officials identified the deceased as Robert Nicholl, 61, and Betty Nicholl, whose approximate age was 85-90, police said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The crash closed all but one of the westbound lanes from about 3 a.m. until just after 7 a.m., when all lanes were reopened.

Series of Fatal Crashes Grows Along Stretch of Interstate 30

Earlier this week, 28-year-old Jarred Schumpert and his 2-year-old son were killed in a crash in the same area near Lake Ray Hubbard.

Witnesses said traffic was slowing for a wreck further down I-30 when one SUV struck a smaller SUV in the rear at about 9:15 p.m. Both vehicles started to burn after the impact.

Nearly one year ago the same stretch of highway along I-30 was closed for hours after a 15-vehicle chain-reaction crash occurred in the fog near Dalrock Road. In that crash, the bridge over Lake Ray Hubbard was closed for 17 hours while the scene was cleared.

NBC 5's Josh Ault contributed to this report.  Initial reports indicated there were four vehicles involved in the crash. Police later said there were three vehicles involved.  We regret the error.
