Two Killed After Drive-By Shooting Targets Dice Game

Dallas Police are looking for a drive-by shooter who killed two men, and wounded two others during a game of dice.

It happened outside of a home, at the corner of Gallagher Street and Vilbig Road in West Dallas.

“I just hope they catch the person who's done it.  My son lost his life,” says father James Johnson, Sr.

Johnson never imagined he would have to bury his 21-year-old son, James Johnson, Jr., a former football player and young father to two little boys.

“He just kind of got mixed up with the wrong crowd and it cost him his life,” says Johnson.

Johnson, Jr., and a group of friends had been leaning over on the sidewalk playing dice. Police said the men may not have even seen the gunman drive up before they quickly came under fire.  Investigators say the shooter fired several rounds with an assault rifle.  Bullets hit four men, an SUV, and the house.

“They were out here shooting dice, somebody just came and started shooting from the back right there,” says “Nanny,” the victims’ friend.

Johnson and Tarrius Reed, 18, died at the hospital.

“Things were good and they came back and said they lost him,” says Johnson, Sr.

The two other victims survived the shooting.

“That was cold-blooded.  They’re cold-blooded whoever did that,” says “Cedman,” the victims’ friend.

The family fears that the code of silence in the neighborhood, may keep a killer from getting caught.

“I don’t know nothing, and that’s how it’s going to stay, because these are the streets.  Nobody know nothing.  We have to play our own detective,” says “Cedman.”

“I wish they would just come forward, try to get some justice.   I just don’t understand,” says Johnson, Sr.

Dallas police are working on a description of the shooter and the car used in the drive-by.
