Two Dead After Small Aircraft Crashes in Denton County

Single engine plane crashes at Propwash Airport

Two people are dead after a small single engine plane crashed at the north end of the Propwash Airport in Denton County.

Denton County authorities say the plane crashed nose first then was fully engulfed by flames, trapping the two victims inside.

The aircraft, a Nanchang CJ-6, had been flying in formation with two other aircraft. "They'd been out flying most of the day and came back in for a landing and one of them had a problem," said Glenn Patterson, a technician at Propwash Airport.

According to DallasNews.com, a witness claimed to see the plane fall from about 500 feet altitude to crash hundreds of feet short of the runway. That same witness, Mark Airey, claimed to know the pilot and passenger and said the pilot had years of flying experience.

"Flying is really dangerous and it's risky every time you go up and it's a tragedy when something like this happens, " said Patterson.

The FAA has started its investigation.

The Medical Examiner's office has released the identity of the two on board the plane as Forest Johnson, 69, of Fort Worth and the passenger, Larry Cotton, 61, of Double Oak.
