Two Arrested and Charged in Amber Alert Hoax

Dallas police say they arrested and charged a teenager and his brother with making a false report after an Amber Alert hoax last week.

On March 26, Dallas police issued an state and nationwide Amber Alert for 16-year-old Aron Lavon Jones after 23-year-old Markevin Jones told police his brother had been kidnapped and was in serious danger.

Dallas Police Youth Operations detectives, patrol officers, the FBI and three other local police agencies conducted an extensive search for Aron Jones believing he was in "imminent danger."

The Amber Alert was canceled at 4:30 a.m. on March 28 when Aron Jones returned home unharmed.

Police say after interviewing Aron and Markevin Jones, officers determined the kidnapping was "a hoax and was created in an attempt to carry out a personal vendetta against one of the witnesses involved in the investigation."

Aron and Markevin Jones were arrested and charged with making a false report. Markevin Jones posted $1,000 bond on March 30, the day he was arrested.
