Fed-Ex Driver Killed After Truck Plunges Into Trinity: Police

Authorities have recovered the body of the driver of an 18-wheeler that was found submerged in the Trinity River in Dallas.

Police said the driver of a FedEx Ground truck went over the side of a bridge on I-45 southbound near the Overton road exit at about 11pm Friday. Rescue crews were initially forced to suspend their search operations due to heavy rains and dangerous conditions after dark.

The combination of speed and rainy weather were believed to have been involved in the cause of the wreck, investigators said.

At about 9am, a swift water rescue team resumed the search. Hazmat crews also responded because of diesel fuel that spilled into the river.

“Our heartfelt thoughts are with those involved in today’s tragic accident in Dallas, Texas" said FedEx spokesman Jim Masilak. "FedEx Ground is cooperating fully with all authorities investigating the accident at this time."

While a body has been recovered, the identity of the driver has not been released.
