Truck Snags Fiber-Optic Cables, Disrupts Service

Some Mesquite residents lost Internet and phone service overnight after an 18-wheeler snagged several fiber optic lines late Wednesday night.

Police said the driver of an 18-wheeler knocked the lines down trying to turn around in the Evans Recreation Center parking lot in the 1100 block of Hillcrest Street at about 11:30 p.m.

Nearly 400 feet of fiber optic cables were on the ground near the community center.

Crews arrived at the location and removed the cables from the ground, but there is no word yet on when service will be restored.
