Fort Worth police are searching for a trio of teenage girls accused of snatching a woman's purse in the parking lot of a Kroger grocery store.
The attack happened at about 5:30 p.m. Monday at the grocery store located at 1050 Bridgewood in east Fort Worth, police said.
Marcia Moore said she was loading groceries into her car and had laid her purse on the trunk when the girls pulled up asking for money. She said she called one girl "honey" but declined to give her any money, claiming she paid for her groceries with a credit card.
At that point, one of the girls jumped out of the car and grabbed the purse.
Moore said she reacted quickly.
"The window was down so I grabbed on the window, so she couldn't shut the door," she said. "They took off, which kind of spun me around as I was holding on, then drug me up the parking lot, and whenever they turned on Bridge Street, I let go."
Moore said none of the girls involved could've been older than 16 years old. Her purse was recovered minutes later, a couple of miles away. She said her wallet was missing, along with all her credit cards, IDs and $160 in cash.
"That's always scary when somebody has your identification and information," she said. "I won't let this change who I am, but I will be a little bit more careful where I put my purse down."
Police said the teenagers fled in a light-blue Ford Focus.
The incident occurred in the same Kroger parking lot that an 85-year-old man was followed home from last week. The man was robbed and assaulted inside his home.
Lt. Paul Henderson said he does not believe the two crimes are related, because the purse-snatching involved teenage girls and the elderly man was attacked by an adult man.
