Trial Scheduled for Man Accused of Drowning Dog

The trial of a Mesquite man charged with felony animal cruelty for beating and drowning his dog is scheduled to begin Wednesday in Dallas.

Robert M. Prichard, 60, has been behind bars since June for violating the terms of his bond. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Police said Prichard hit his pit bull in the head with a shovel and then drowned her in a pool with a net. Prichard told police that he was mad at the dog for chewing on his lawn furniture.

At Prichard's bond hearing, a snippet of his home security video was played allegedly showing him drowning the dog with a pool net.
