Tow Truck Driver Killed in Hit-And-Run on Grand Prairie Interstate

The son of a tow truck driver struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash as he helped a woman stranded on Interstate 20 early Friday morning is asking for help finding the driver that killed his father.

According to Joshua Mosby, his cousin, 46-year-old Keith Holt, said he was headed out to help a client who was stuck on the highway with her child.

While helping that woman in the westbound lanes of Interstate 20, near the South Great Southwest Parkway overpass, Holt was fatally struck by a passing vehicle.  The driver, believed to be behind the wheel of a 2012-2015 white or multi-colored Nissan Altima, kept going.

Holt died at the scene.

"I was his only child and he gave me the world. He gave me everything. I'm very broken hearted," said Keith Holt Jr., the victim's son. "It crushed me. I'm on the ground right now. I'm just trying to keep faith and pray about it."

Holt owned an automotive repair shop on Lamar in Dallas where he fixed cars and took calls to tow them.

"He's a good dude. He'd give you the clothes off his back, the shoes off his feet if he had too," said Mosby.

Mosby was with him when he took his final call from a client, a woman stranded on I-20 with her child.

"He went to go check on one of his clients. We told him, 'Be careful. We love you,' like we always say. He said, 'I'll be back,' Mosby recalled.[[503891201,R]]

Holt, of course, never returned home. His son told NBC 5 Friday he was grateful to have seen his father just hours before he died and that he was still coming to terms with the loss.

"He was everything for everybody. That was a good guy," Holt said. "I just wish I could have justice for my dad. I'm very sad right now."

Lt. Eric Hansen, with the Grand Prairie Police Department, said the driver of the vehicle that hit Holt must know they hit something overnight due the damaged vehicle parts found at the scene.

Friday afternoon police said investigators found damaged pieces of the vehicle they believe hit Holt and that they likely came from a white or multi-colored 2012-2015 Nissan Altima that will likely now have damage to the right front portion of the vehicle. Police said pieces of the vehicle found at the scene indicate the vehicle had been painted and that the passenger side mirror, which is white, is broken.

Police said investigators were checking traffic and security cameras for any images of the car that struck the man.

Investigators noted the stranded driver did not see the crash happen and was unable to provide an account of what happened.

"Please man give us any type of tips, leads, anything helps because it's my family this time, but next time it could be yours," said Mosby.
