    Toll Lanes Planned for LBJ Between US 75 and I-30

    A plan to expand a nearly 11-mile stretch of Interstate 635 between the interchanges with US 75 Central Expressway and Interstate 30 would include the installation of managed toll lanes for the entirety of the route. (Published Monday, Nov. 6, 2017)

    A plan to expand a nearly 11-mile stretch of Interstate 635 between the interchanges with US 75 Central Expressway and Interstate 30 would include the installation of managed toll lanes for the entirety of the route.

    The North Central Texas Council of Governments and the Texas Department of Transportation have long planned an expansion of LBJ Freeway east of the High Five interchange. Managed toll lanes had previously been planned for only a portion of the project.

    The finished project, if it is completed as planned, would include five free lanes in each direction, two managed toll lanes in each direction, as well as continuous frontage roads for the entire stretch.

    The LBJ expansion would take an estimated ten years to complete, and the work would be done in stages:

    • The section between US 75 and Royal Lane/Miller Road would be built from 2019 to 2022.

    • The section from Royal Lane/Miller Road to near State Highway 78 (Garland Road) would be built from 2021-2023.

    • The section from Garland Road to Interstate 30 would be built from 2023 to 2026.

    • The Interstate 30 interchange would be rebuilt from 2025 to 2027.

    The estimated price tag for the project would be approximately $1.8 billion.
