Toddler Dies After Being Left in SUV

Police believe "tragic accident" was heat related

Police say the death of a 2-year-old boy who was left in the back of his family's vehicle in Irving appears to be a "tragic accident."

Investigators say the boy had inadvertently been left in a sport utility vehicle on Thursday after his family unloaded belongings from the vehicle in the driveway.

The family had just moved to Texas from California.

Police say the boy's mother had thought all nine of her children were inside their home when she closed the vehicle.

Later in the evening, the mother called police after she couldn't find her son. Officers found the boy in the back of the SUV.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is pending, but police believe his death is heat-related.
