6 Pistachio Brands Now Recalled Over Salmonella Concerns

Pistachios produced by Wonderful Pistachios and Texas Star Nut & Food Company have been recalled over salmonella concerns

A pistachio recall announced last week over salmonella concerns has been expanded to include six brands, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Wonderful, Paramount Farms and Trader Joe's voluntarily recalled in-shell and shelled pistachios March 10 after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notified the companies of the possible contamination. The recalled pistachios, all produced by Wonderful Pistachios, have "best by" dates between Oct. 26 and Nov. 6.

The recall was expanded Monday to include Fresh Choice, Southern Grove and Nature's Eats pistachios produced by the Texas Star Nut & Food Company.

The pistachios in question were sold nationwide between Aug. 13, 2015, and Feb. 24, 2016, according to the FDA, which lists the affected products on its website.

Consumers should throw away affected pistachios and return the empty packages to the place of purchase for a refund.

Salmonella symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

Eleven people in nine states were infected with salmonella linked to nuts included in the original recall. Two were hospitalized, according to the CDC. No illnesses have been reported in connection with nuts produced by Texas Star Nut & Food Company, the FDA said.

Those with questions for The Wonderful Company can call 844-505-3844 any time. Consumers can reach the Texas Star Nut & Food Company at 844-571-5555 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. CST.
