Thousands of Travelers Stranded By Icy Texas Roads

Icy conditions have brought vehicles to a standstill on interstate highways across North Texas. It's also caused hundreds of airline cancelations at DFW Airport. Here's a PARTIAL list of the problem areas on Saturday morning:

DENTON COUNTY

The city of Denton is urging people NOT to drive north on I-35E from the Lewisville/Corinth area. "We currently have 'a couple hundred' 18 wheelers that have given up and parked on the highway for the night," said Ryan Greele, Denton Police Dept. Public Information Officer in a media release. 

Saturday at 6:00 a.m., NBC DFW showed miles of parked trucks along I-35E.

Vehicles began having issues along I-35E in the Sanger area on Friday night. Members of a Sanger church began taking in stranded drivers and giving food to stranded drivers.

FORT WORTH

Several 18-wheelers continued to have a rough time negotiating the I-30/I-35W mixmaster in downtown Fort Worth. NBC DFW showed trucks on the right shoulder of I-30. Both sides of the interstate are ice packed. 

PARKER COUNTY

Several vehicles also reported stranded on I-20 near Weatherford. Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson Val Lopez to NBC DFW on Saturday morning that vehicles in that area have started moving but icy conditions continue.

DFW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

As of Saturday at 6:30 a.m., DFW Airport reported the airlines have canceled more than 350 departures

The airport said runways and taxiways were treated for ice overnight. The airport also housed more than 3300 passengers staying in the terminals overnight. 

If you're driving to the airport, bridges coming off of State Highways 183 and 360 remained slick. Flyover bridges to Terminals A, B, C and E are open.

DART RAIL LINES AND BUSES

As of Saturday at 5:00 a.m., DART said it is operating buses in place of DART rail. Buses are planned every 20-25 minutes but that can be delayed due to the road conditions.

DART bus and the Trinity Railway Express are expected to follow a regular Saturday schedule.

THE T BUSES

The Fort Worth public transportation agency said it is operating on a normal operating schedule.
