A Texas DPS Highway Patrol Trooper is dead after a crash Saturday afternoon along I-35 in Temple.

Investigators say Senior Trooper Thomas Nipper was conducting a traffic stop on the shoulder of I-35 in Temple. That's when his patrol car was hit from behind by a pickup.

Rescue crews rushed Trooper Nipper to the hospital, but he later died.

“It is with heavy heart that we must notify our fellow Texans that State Trooper Thomas Nipper died in the line of duty today,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw.
